30 homes opened their doors to over 600 visits one sunny weekend in March. The homes showcased a wide range of measures, from solid wall insulation to solar, from wood-fired heating to water recycling, from chickens, to bee-keeping to re-used materials. Watch our short film about the event here

Visitor Sue said ‘This weekend has been perfect for me because I am moving to another house and want to make sure I spend money on the right things.’ Organiser Anna Francis added ‘learning about what works and what doesn’t from neighbours rather than salesmen or anonymous websites is a much more effective way to plan changes to your home.’

Participating homes included self-built eco homes such as the Old Lemonade Factory as well as more typical Frome homes – new and old. Two local hydro schemes, at Hapsford and Tellisford, also participated demonstrating the power of using natural resources to generate clean energy. Case studies for each home are available here.

Frome Renewable Energy Co-op are planning a follow-up Big Green Energy Fair at the Cheese and Grain on September 14th 2014
